VBT Recall Election set for Feb. 23

On Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, Van Buren Township Clerk Leon Wright said he had received official notice from the Wayne County Election Commission that the recall petitions submitted had been certified and a recall election has been set for Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010.

VBT officials targeted for recall are Supervisor Paul White, Clerk Wright, and Trustees Denise Partridge and Albert Ostrowski. All were elected in November 2008.

Although the four officials and their supporters had submitted objections to many of the signatures on the petitions, the petitions were certified by Director of Elections Cynthia Hawthorne.

If the recall election is successful, the officials will leave office immediately upon certification of the election. If they are not recalled, they will be safe from another recall threat for the following six months.
